Black developed his KB to a "closed" K2(e7) to contest for control of his KKt4(g5) - a waiting game.
White now rejects the Catalan and develops his Queen's Knight to QB3(c3) to support P-K4 and attack Black's QP, still leaving his QBP en prise.
