White developed his QKt to contest for K4(e4) and, more importantly, resume control of Black's Q4(d5).
Black sets his QPawn on Q3(d6), a move seen less often nowadays. According to Barden & Harding's "Guide To Chess Openings" this (or after 2.P-Q4) can be a way to enter the King's Indian or can lead to independent set-ups with a Black ..B-K2. B-Alt.
