White's KKtPawn pawn push signalled an intention to increase his control of Q5(d5) by a KB fianchetto.
Black develops his King's Bishop to QKt5(b4) to half-pin White's QKt and keep things closed, cutting support for 4.P-K4 and enabling castling. Vasily Smyslov was World Champion in 1957-8. B-Alt.
