White moved K4(e4) knight to KB6(f6) with check, offering a piece to keep Black's king on the centre file - the move that made this game remarkable.
Black's KKtPawn is forced to remove the sacrificial knight [else 18.KtxQ] - but in so doing he half-opens the KKt-file to his advantage. His two bishops are also ideally placed together to attack White's king.
