The Steinitz Variation
Black advanced his QBP to QB4(c5) to extend his pawn chain and threaten the base of White's centre.
White's Q4(d4) Pawn sometimes removes Black's threatening QBP on QB5(c5) to invite an exchange, as in Steinitz-Showalter, Vienna 1898. W-Alt.
