Black wanted to keep his doubled KBP (to avoid danger from a castled f-file rook) and so defended it with his KKtPawn (defended by his Q) to dislodge the White Kt by 5..P-Kt5 enabling ..Q-R5+ch.
White advances his KRPawn to attack Black's KtP and undermine his pawn structure.
