THE KING'S FIANCHETTO OPENING
aka. Rat or Benko Opening

White pushes his King's Knight's Pawn a square, planning a king's bishop fianchetto. This rare flank opening enables Black to take the centre with 1..P-K4 and so White must employ a high degree of tactical skill to make it work to his advantage. More often seen in a Barcza System. "The Rat" was its 19th C. nickname in London coffee houses. W-Alt.
