White's KBP advance attacked Black's KP (a gambit favoured by Alexander McDonnell 1798-1835).
Black's centre KPawn under attack removes the second gambit pawn on KB5(f4). Inferior to 4..P-Q4, it usually leads to the Four Pawns Gambit. B-Alt.
