White advanced a rarely played QKtPawn to QKt4(b4), avoiding early occupation of the centre but planning to control it by indirect means.
Black takes the opportunity to fill the vacant centre with his Queen's Pawn unopposed so as to deter 2.P-K4, and frees his QB for development. B-Alt.
