Black's KKt counter-attacked White's KP to simplify the centre and avoid Scotch and Spanish lines.
White's lively Queen's Pawn advance doubles an attack on Black's KP and prevents 3..B-B4. Black usually removes the KP (leading to the Symmetrical line) or QP, or transposes into Philidor's. W-Alt.
