(West Indian Defence route)

White advanced his QBPawn to QB4(c4) to contest Black's Q4(d5) for a possible 4.P-Q5.
Black sets his King's Pawn out a square, frees his queen and KB to enable 4.Kt-B3..B-QKt5, and deters 4.P-Q5. The Queen's Indian Defence has four main approach lines (this "west-wing" defence being one).
