White pushes his King's Knight's Pawn out to KKt3(g3), planning his own KB-fianchetto. The safest course (as 3.P-Q4..PxP, 4.QxP..Kt-B3 tends to favour Black), it leaves Black little option but to transpose back into one of the main close lines.
