White developed his queen's knight, an occasional move seeking more to control the central light squares (d5/e4) than threaten Black's QP.
Black transposes into the Tarrasch Defence by pushing his King's Pawn out to K3(e6), defending his QP and enabling his freed KB to defend his QBP.
