Here's a new mnemonic phrase illustrating the all-too-brief career of Joan of Arc, the French "Maid of Orleans":

" ORLEANS CAMPAIGN RUIN "

Orleans (victory) 1429
Compčigne (capture) 1430
Rouen (trial/death) 1431

To recall the year-dates, think of 29-30-31 degrees of "arc":

Jeanne d'Arc revived the spirit of her French countrymen when it was at a low ebb during the pause before the final phase of the Hundred Years War, and gave them a new sense of courage and moral superiority that eventually carried them through to victory over the English.
