POISSON FORMULA

Here's a mnemonic for the Poisson distribution formula used in statistics. It is itself largely made up of the word "mnemonic":

" ( mn e-n ) / n ! "

Or m to the nth power, e to the minus nth, over n factorial.
The "i" serves to remind of the inverted factorial (!) sign.

The Poisson formula is used in statistical analysis and quantitative methods to construct theoretical probability distributions for discrete (ie. unrelated) data.
