POISSON FORMULA Here's a mnemonic for the Poisson distribution formula used in statistics. It is itself largely made up of the word "mnemonic": " ( mn e-n ) / n ! " Or
m to the nth power,
e to the minus nth,
over n factorial. The Poisson formula is used in statistical analysis and quantitative methods to construct theoretical probability distributions for discrete (ie. unrelated) data.
