The King's Knight Opening

White moves his/her King's Knight (KKt) towards the centre and attacks a pawn, as per the general rule: develop with attack if possible. This knight move, common to most openings, is rarely inferior as it also supports P-Q4(d4), deters ..Q-R5(h4) (a check threat) and is a step towards castling. Black must guard his KP or set an equal threat. W-Alt.
